Particulate Matter Sensors

Particulate Matter (PM) Sensors are devices that monitor the level of soot in the exhaust system in order to:

  • Monitor the cleanliness/condition of Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and inform the ECU/user about the need for its regeneration or replacement
  • Ensure compliance with emission standards

PM sensors communicate with the vehicle ECU via CAN, and output a linearized value based on the measured resistance between two platinum sensing electrodes. The on-board software manages the sensor regeneration and performs self-diagnostics, including checks for circuit faults and tampering.

Advantages:

  • Single-layer alumina element for thermal shock resistance and excellent platinum adhesion
  • Laser-cut electrodes for consistent and fast response, high sensitivity
  • Integrated sensor-heater for efficient heating of the sensing surface during regeneration
