The sensors are measuring devices that monitor speed and position of rotating objects in order to:
- Set ignition timing
- Determine engine speed and provide RPM signal
- Prevent the brakes from locking
- Calculate the transmission’s actual gear ratio
- Establish injector synchronization and coil firing sequence
- Modify engine functions such as air/fuel ratio and transmission shift points
- Indirectly monitor tire pressure
Our speed and position sensors use various technologies:
- Giant Magnetic Resistance
- Hall Effect
- Variable Reluctance
Product Range
- SMP makes speed and position sensors in a broad range of materials to provide compatibility with different media (e.g. engine oil, transmission fluid, water, air, etc.) and mounting port materials
- Different mounting options available (e.g. threaded connection, flange mount, push-fit etc.)
- Different connector types, both on-harness and integrated with sensor body, different electrical contact materials – can be adapted to any customer needs
- Available in a range of operating temperatures
- Different output types available (analog, PWM, etc.)
- Direction detection capability
